This is a unique tour that will introduce you to some of Victoria's lesser known treasures and will require up to 4 hours for full exploration.
Leaving Cycle BC, be sure to visit the Christ Church Cathedral, Craigdorroch Castle, Government House and Belfry Theatre before heading northwest along Gorge Rd. At the top of the city, you'll cross over the Gorge Waterway and join the Old Island Highway. Just after passing the junction of the Trans Canada Highway, you'll see Six Mile Rd on your right, which will take you up to Thetis Lake. Consider going for a dip or hiking along the trail which circumnavigates the lake.
Continuing along the Old Island Highway, you'll reach Ocean Boulevard which will take you to Fort Rodd & Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site. This is an amazing place for history buffs, photographers and those nosy types who like to poke around interesting places; you can explore the nooks and crannies of the fort and lighthouse for hours!
Leaving the site, continue on Ocean Boulevard which runs along Cobourg Peninsula, a unique sandspit separating Esquimalt Lagoon from the ocean. This is a favourite spot of local birders. Next, you'll drive around the lagoon via Metchosin and Sooke Rds and enter Royal Roads University to visit ivy-infested Hatley Castle. Return to the Old Island Highway which will take you all the way back to Cycle BC!
Route time is based on a casual, sightseeing pace. A faster pace could cut the time in half.
